RN Joins Project Reach Out for Low Threshold Medical Care

Friday, September 12th, 2014

We’re pleased to announce that our Project Reach Out van, which provides syringe exchange services, HIV/hepatitis C screenings and referrals to drug treatment, now offers low threshold medical care for clients. A part-time registered nurse joined our PRO staff in July, offering basic wound care, general health information and referrals to medical treatment. Barbara Bennet, HVCS’ Education Director, said: “Having a nurse on board the mobile unit builds trust within the community. We can also help those who traditionally avoid medical care to identify infections and early warning signs of much more complex issues.” Clients can access this low threshold medical care at PRO’s Poughkeepsie site on Mondays and Thursdays. For more information, visit the PRO page on our website.

Out on the Farm: A BGHV Event

Thursday, September 4th, 2014

One of the greatest parts about life in the Hudson Valley is the number of fabulous local farms we have right in our own backyard. BigGayHudsonValley.com decided that it was just about time to dedicate a night to spending some time “Out on the Farm”.  While you’re thinking about a fall get-a-way, make Out On The Farm the centerpiece of your weekend and think about visiting an assortment of wineries, distilleries, maple syrup, or cheese makers that are right here in beautiful Dutchess County!

Mark your calendar for Sunday Oct. 5th as Big Gay Hudson Valley presents our first ever night “Out on the Farm” at Sprout Creek Farm in Poughkeepsie. We’ve got an ‘udderly’ fabulous night in the works at one of the nation’s best new cheese makers and everyone is invited.

We’re still pulling all of the details together, but this BYOB event will include:

  • Dinner as prepared by the Chef at Sprout Creek Farm
  • Music and dancing by DJs Booksmrt, Prephab & Superior Sounds
  • Haaaaaaaay! Rides
  • Campfire (bring your fixins for S’Mores!)
  • Lots of Farm Animals
  • Plenty of FREE Parking

Spend a fabulous fall evening with the Hudson Valley LGBTQ community (and all of our pals) for just $20 in advance, $25 at the door. More details as well as tickets will be available soon, so stay tuned.

HVCS suggests these fantastic local restaurants, all located close to the Mid-Hudson Civic Center. Some are even offering special discounts if you show them your HDB ticket!
