Sofregit’s Live Cooking Demo for THRIVES
Thursday, January 8th, 2015On January 8, 2015, local business owner Carla Ramos stopped by our Poughkeepsie office with Chef Chris for a live Sofregit cooking demo. The duo used their locally-made cooking bases to prepare quick, easy and, most importantly, healthy dishes for clients in our THRIVES nutrition program. The chefs had us laughing and saying “yum!” throughout the demo. Thanks to Sofregit for providing such a great educational demo!

A Delicious Donation from Sofregit

Carla Ramos of Sofregit (and creator of the Hairdressers’ Disco Ball) whirled into our new Poughkeepsie office’s food pantry with a donation of freshly-made herb butters and mayo and coconut oil spreads. She explained how to easily boost the flavors of countless meals to THRIVES Nutrition Coordinator Krista Mason. Krista will be able to add the refrigerated spreads to clients’ pantry bags for the holidays. Our deepest appreciation to Sofregit for your generosity!
MAC Pok Gets Us Ready for the Holidays

In honor of World AIDS Day, volunteers from MAC Cosmetics in Poughkeepsie spent the day in our new Poughkeepsie office, setting up our emergency food closet, unpacking food, and wrapping presents for our clients. The team powered through a mountain of donated toiletry items and toys for clients’ families, and got the chance to ask lots of questions about our programs and services. Special thanks to Terisa for organizing her team for a day of service!

HVCS is excited to announce that our Poughkeepsie office has moved! We are now located at 40 Garden Street, just off of the 44/55 Arterial, in Suite 401. We still have a lot of work to do to make it into a cozy, inviting space for staff and visitors, but we love the windows with sweeping views of the city of Poughkeepsie. Our food pantry is much larger, and our staff have a kitchen/lunchroom for the first time!
When you visit, you can use one of the three dedicated parking spaces in front of the building, or park nearby in the municipal lot. We’ll have a full open house this spring. Until then, come visit our new home at 40 Garden Street!
Thanksgiving Eve Party & Food Drive
Friday, October 17th, 2014Join the Hudson Valley Bears and Prephab for a pre-Turkey Day dance party at River Station in Poughkeepsie. Get on out for the biggest club night of the year and party for a good cause! Bring donations of non-perishable foods, toiletries, household cleansers, or unwrapped gifts to help fill HVCS’ Dutchess County pantry for the holidays.

Blacklight Zombie Bowl-A-Rama + Dance Party
Tuesday, October 14th, 2014The undead have risen and they’re ready to strike! Well…to throw a strike, anyway.
Big Gay Hudson Valley is spending Halloween at Mardi-Bob (Hoebowl) Lanes as we take over the place for a zombie-themed Bowl-A-Rama and dance party on Halloween night.
Doors to the bar/dance floor open at 8p and the Blacklight Bowl-A-Rama commences at 9:30p. DJs Prephab will be serving up spooky Halloween beats from the bar and Trixie Starr will stare deep into your future as her crystal (bowling) ball conjures up your fortune.
Costume contest info to come, so start brainstorming your best zombie chic look.
