Dollar Night at the Hudson Valley Renegades

Monday, July 16th, 2012

gameTake yourself out to the ballgame on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 for Dollar Night with the Hudson Valley Renegades. All you have to do is bring a toiletry or personal hygiene item to donate to ARCS’ emergency pantries, and you’ll get a general admission ticket to that night’s game for just $1! The game starts at 7:05 pm as the ‘Gades take on the Connecticut Tigers at Dutchess Stadium, located on Route 9D in Wappingers Falls (close to Beacon, the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and Route 84). The Renegades put on quite a show in between innings too with lots of contests, singalongs, and games for all ages. Snagging a ticket for $1 makes this a great family activity–everyone who brings at least one toiletry item gets in for just a buck!

PLUS, the ‘Gades will be handing out packets of their 2012 season trading cards. Look for a special ARCS card in your pack!

Suggested items to bring:

toothpaste

toothbrushes

shampoo and conditioners

soap

anti-bacterial hand soap

shaving cream

moisturizer/lotion

household cleaners (countertop cleaners, glass cleaner, etc.)

paper towels and toilet paper

laundry detergent

For directions to Dutchess Stadium and more info about the Renegades, go to www.hvrenegades.com. For more details or questions on appropriate donation items, please call (914) 785-8283.

Chef Smith Goes "Shopping" in ARCS' Food Pantries for Dining Out for Life's Kickoff

Tuesday, April 17th, 2012

ARCS’ J. Dewey invites Chef Derek Smith to our offices with a challenge: create gourmet hors d’oeuvre for our Dining Out for Life kick-off using only ingredients commonly found in our emergency food closets.

Kick-off Wine Tasting for Dining Out for Life

Friday, March 16th, 2012

You’re invited to a kick-off wine tasting reception!

Please join us at Millbrook Vineyards and Winery on Thursday, April 19, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm for a complimentary wine tasting reception to start the countdown to ARCS’ Dining Out for Life fundraiser.

Millbrook Winery will be pouring four of their wines for you to try in their tasting loft overlooking the vineyards. And because every party needs some food, we’ve challenged Chef Derek Smith to create delicious, gourmet hors d’oeuvre using only ingredients normally found in ARCS’ emergency food closets. Can he whip up scrumptious, high-end appetizers from canned goods, pasta and other nonperishables? (Don’t worry, we won’t take food from the food closet meant to feed our hungry clients.) Watch for video of Chef Derek at work, and you’ve got to be there to taste the results!

We’ll also have samples of Dutchess County-made Crown Maple syrup, as well as door prizes for a few lucky guests. Mid-Hudson Subaru will be on hand with the latest top-selling model too.

Please RSVP by April 13, 2012 by emailing jcalabrese@arcs.org or calling (914) 785-8283.

Ardsley's Silver Lining Club Holds Food Drive for ARCS

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

On Sunday, November 6, 2011, members of the Ardsley High School Silver Lining Club held a food drive at DeCicco’s Market in Ardsley for ARCS’ food and nutrition programs. The group handed out shopping lists to DeCicco customers as they entered the store and collected nonperishable foods, household cleansers and toiletries to be distributed to ARCS’ food closets. Even though the drive ran for just 3 hours, the group brought in an entire carload of donated food and supplies. Special thanks to club representatives Katherine Loomba and Felice Segal for organizing the event, and to ARCS’ THRIVES Coordinator Meredith Morabito for hanging out with the club and bringing the food back to ARCS.

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

ARCS received a sweet Valentine in the form of a $10,000 check from Nordstrom on Monday, February 14, 2011. Nordstrom awarded the grant to ARCS with monies from the M.A.C. AIDS Fund. M.A.C. Cosmetics counters within Nordstrom locations donate 100% of the sales of VIVA GLAM lipsticks and “lipglass” to the M.A.C. AIDS Fund. Over the past three years, ARCS is grateful to have received over $22,000 from Nordstom and the M.A.C. AIDS Fund to support our food and nutrition programs, including our THRIVES nutrition program and our emergency food closets.

December's E-mail Newsletter

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

Check out ARCS’ December E-mail Newsletter online here. We’re still collecting donations of non-perishable foods, toiletries and cash for our Year-End Food and Funds Drive. So far we’ve collected 1,200 pounds of food and $2,000 – but there’s a long way to go before reaching our $10,000 goal for 2010! Please consider making a donation by going to www.arcs.org/donate.php.

Updated: ARCS in the News!

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Update: ARCS’ Executive Director, Jeff Kraus, was interviewed on WAMC regarding the fact that New York State is withholding payments to contracted not-for-profits. While this situation is not unique to ARCS, unfortunately, as you’ll hear in the interview, it has placed us in a precarious financial predicament.
