"Drag Yourself Out" at the LOFT with Westchester Pride!

Get ready to “Drag Yourself Out”! Bring on the makeup, dresses, wigs, shoes, facial hair, suits, bow ties and attitude as you become “Queen For A Day” or “King Of The Castle”…Drag Queen/King that is. We are taking Gender Bender to the max with this fun day of Dress Up. Various consignment shops, Mary Kay, make-up artists and seasoned Drag Queens will be on hand to provide you with the tools to try dressing in Drag [Feel free to bring your own supplies also!]. A Photographer will be on hand to capture your sassy new look, and The LOFT’s open mic night immediately follows. Why not prepare a lip sync or some other act (bring a copy of your music) to showcase your new drag persona? Dinner will be provided by the LOFT. $25 per person includes drag instruction, some supplies, dinner, and entrance to Open Mic.

Join ARCS and your hostess TRIXIE STARR at Out Bar on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 8:30 pm until 2 am the following day for the Red Ribbon After Party! Wear your Hudson Valley AIDS Walk t-shirt and get half-priced beer and well drinks all night long! (Don’t worry, if you weren’t able to walk with us in the morning, you can pick up an AIDS Walk t-shirt at Out Bar for a $20 donation.) The DJK plays the hottest house music, and Fox Drive FX radio will be broadcasting LIVE from the Out Bar on 94.1 and 95.7 FM!

March 20 and 21, 2012 – 9a-5p – Hudson Valley LGBTQ Center, Kingston (Ulster County)

This two-day training is designed to help health and human services providers promote sexual health among their clients by building their capacity to talk sensitively and non-judgmentally about sexual identity, gender identity and sexual behaviors. Topics to be covered during the training include: sexual and gender identity; strategies for talking with clients about sexual health issues; HIV/STD prevention and harm reduction strategies for sexual behaviors.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

• Increase their awareness about the range of sexual and gender identities of their clients;
• Describe how homophobia and other forms of stigma and discrimination can impact a client’s sexual behaviors and ability to practice sexual risk reduction;
• Increase their comfort in discussing sexual and gender identity with clients;
• Describe how sexual trauma can impact a client’s sexual behaviors and risk for HIV/STDs; and
• Offer clients harm reduction options for sexual behaviors.

Prerequisite: Although there is no prerequisite for this course, it is strongly recommended that participants have previous knowledge or training on basic HIV/AIDS information.
Audience: All health and human service providers.

The generous ladies and lads over at B Lounge, Westchester’s only LGBTQ bar, are holding a toy drive on behalf of the children of ARCS’ clients from now until December 21st! Bring an unwrapped toy to B Lounge on any night (they’re open 7 nights a week!) and they’ll make sure it gets to ARCS in time for the holidays.

B Lounge is located at 4 Broadway in Valhalla, NY 10595. They are conveniently located across from the Valhalla train station on the Harlem Line via Metro North.  Plenty of street parking is also available.
