Rockland LGBTQ Pride

Welcome to VCS Gay Pride Rockland

In early 1999, we tested the idea of developing a gay pride event with LGBT community members, local shop keepers, religious leaders, non-profit agencies and elected officials. We shared from the outset that our mission would be to affirm the dignity of all LGBT people, their families, friends, and allies who live in every hamlet, village and town in Rockland County. And at the same time, we wanted to transform the stereotypes that so adversely impact the LGBT community.

WIGSTICKS Coming to the Milford Theatre

WIGSTICKS – FAIRY TALES COMING TO THE MILFORD THEATRE

The Upper Delaware GLBT Center (UDGLBT) is delighted to announce WIGSTICKS—Fairy Tales, a Drag Show feature at The Historic Milford Theatre (114 E. Catherine Street) on Saturday, May 19, 2012.  The show will again feature the illustrious Steady Mess and her wonderful troupe of performers.

This year there will be two performances.  The afternoon show, at 3pm, is a drag comedy show for teens (ages 14 +), parents, teachers and anyone who works with and cares about youth.   It’s a fun and entertaining way to show support for diversity acceptance and to increase the understanding of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (GLBTQ) youth.  Following this show there will be a Q&A session with professionals who work with GLBTQ youth as well as the talented performers.   Proceeds from this performance will benefit Safe Haven’s RYOT (Rallying Youth Organizers Together) program and the UDGLBT’s P3 (People Promoting Pride) youth group.

The evening show, at 9pm, is an adult oriented (18+) show followed by a dance party at the Tom Quick Inn.  Proceeds are to benefit the UDGLBT’s work in providing support and empowerment to the GLBTQ community and well as promoting acceptance.

The 2011 WIGSTICKS was a huge success – filling all 300 seats at the Milford Theatre.  It brought the GLBTQ community and their supportive friends together for an evening of great fun and camaraderie.

Advance tickets for the afternoon show are $10 and can be purchased online ONLY at www.wigsticks.org or http://udglbtcenter.blogspot.com or at the ticket window at the theatre up to 60 minutes prior to the performance.

Advance tickets for the evening performance are $20 and can be purchased at www.wigsticks.org or http://udglbtcenter.blogspot.com.  Tickets are also available at The Forklift Café, South of 01 on Route 739, Dingmans Ferry, PA, Upriver Home, 202 Broad St., Milford, PA and at the Upfront Exhibition Space, 31 Jersey Ave, Port Jervis, NY.  Tickets purchased at the door on the day of the show will be $25.

In addition to our general seating, an exclusive VIP Evening ticket is available only online which includes pre-show cocktails hosted by The Phoenix (322 Broad Street, Milford, across from Hotel Fauchère), entrance to the evening performance with preferred seating, and entrance to the post-show dance at Tom Quick Inn.

If you are interested in purchasing an advertisement in our program for the evening please email cary@udglbt.org for information.  As Pike County has the highest concentration of same-sex households in Pennsylvania the program is far reaching.

The Upper Delaware GLBT Center is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides services to the GLBTQ community in an effort to support, empower and encourage acceptance.  Additional information is available at http://udglbtcenter.blogspot.com/.

ARCS' Santo Barbagiovanni on WDFH Radio Show

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Tune in to WDFH on 90.3 FM on Wednesday (4/18/12) at 6:30pm, and again on Saturday (4/21/12) at 9:00am, to hear ARCS’ Santo Barbagiovanni, CHAPS Program Supervisor, discussing HIV/AIDS prevention work on their “For the Greater Good” program.

About WDFH:

WDFH 90.3 FM, Westchester Public Radio broadcasts from a tower in Mount Pleasant.  We’ve actually been on-air since 1995, but with a tiny audience and weak signal. In 2009, the FCC approved a long-awaited signal expansion which permits us to broadcast in a generally northward direction from Mt. Pleasant to reach as many as 400,000 potential listeners in central and northern Westchester and eastern Rockland County. WDFH may be heard at www.wdfh.org, and on smart phones through the Public Radio Player application.

WDFH is a not-for-profit, commercial-free station staffed by volunteers who are dedicated to providing quality programming which includes a freeform mix of rock, jazz, blues, folk, and programs that showcase local musicians. We offer local news and public affairs through locally-hosted and produced programs, and carry Pacifica Network shows like Democracy Now, Free Speech Radio News and This Way Out plus shows from independent producers. There’s a reason on the very left of the radio dial!

Since WDFH is operated by volunteers, we’re truly a “community” public radio station. Our quality local programs are relevant to our listeners. Longtime station volunteers Vinny Cohan, Dave Foster and John Dyer host weekly music programs using a library of more than 100,000 recordings. You’ll rarely hear the same song repeated in a month, much less in the save day!

A list of our current locally-hosted and produced news and public affairs shows: follows. You may visit www.WDFH.org for a program schedule:

  • In Focus, an in-depth discussion of local news and public affairs, is hosted by WDFH veterans Jane Botticelli and Vinny Cohan with guest reporter Gary Cahill, editor and publisher of The Gazette, based in Croton-on-Hudson.
  • Eyes on Westchester is a conversation about current issues affecting central and northern Westchester. It is hosted by Melinda Battle, with Faith Ann Butcher, Editor-in-Chief of The Northern Westchester Examiner.
  • Recovery Talk, hosted by veteran journalist Robyn Leary, is a pioneering show dedicated to resilience in recovery. Health and medical topics, new science technologies, advances in trauma research, public policy, addiction treatment, recovery advocacy, veteran’s affairs, domestic violence resources and anti-crime initiatives are among the many subjects covered.
  • For the Greater Good spotlights the work of Westchester-area not-for profit organizations. Due to the nature of media these days, promoting their services, programs, events and needs has become more challenging than ever before. Host Di Morgan provides the time to discuss the role they play in our area and in our lives.
  • Village Green explores environmental and social issues reflecting the greening of communities in the lower Hudson valley and beyond. Hosted by Maxine Margo Rubin, it builds awareness and promotes grassroots efforts in the areas of energy use, alternative energy sources, food and local farming, water and land use, and more eco-friendly habits.
  • OutCasting made its debut in October 2011. Students from local high school Gay-Straight Alliances and similar groups plan the show, conduct interviews and assist with

editing and production. We believe this is the only program of its kind in the U.S. enabling students to actually host and produce a program exploring LGBTQ issues they face on a daily basis.

WDFH relies on donations and underwriting from individuals, businesses, corporations and foundations to survive and pay for operating expenses. Listeners are asked to make an investment in a nonprofit, commercial-free radio station that exists only for the benefit of its listeners.

Learn more about WDFH and listen online at www.wdfh.org where you can find out about events, upcoming broadcasts, volunteering and make a donation to support our work.
