Tom Judson's "Nature Boy" Cabaret Show

Tuesday, September 25th, 2012

Tom_NatureBoy_400x600If you’ve been to our Halloween Spooktacular before, you know there’s always a wonderful show at the event’s center, presented by the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center. This year’s performance is a brand-new cabaret show by Tom Judson fresh from its premiere in New York City!

Tom Judson will be presenting his all-new cabaret show “Nature Boy” at Poughkeepsie’s historic Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center in its first performance following the premiere of the show at New York City’s newest and most exciting music space 54 Below. This special one performance event will be seen Saturday, October 27 at 8PM at Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center, 12 Vassar Street, Poughkeepsie, NY .

“Nature Boy” is a wonderfully classic cabaret act in the old school tradition: Tom accompanies himself on the piano for an hour on a dozen or so selections from The Great American Songbook. Some old, some new, some well-known standards and some rare gems. All, of course, pertaining to the theme of music and nature. “Midnight Sun,” “The Best Things In Life Are Free,” The Beatles’ “Mother Natures Son” and even a cowboy song or two, all diverse in the richness of their melody and depth of lyric. Between songs Tom shares why he chose the repertoire and what makes the songs individual and special. He also reminisces a bit about growing up on his grandparents’ farm.

Join us for one special evening at Cunneen-Hackett and find out why Michael Musto writing in The Village Voice insists “let’s get this man a show at the Carlyle or the Algonquin. I’m serious,” and The Times Square Chronicle says it’s “not often…you find someone who can transport an audience with such genuine charm and timeless taste in music.”

The show is free for all VIP guests at the Halloween Spooktacular! To get your tickets, go to www.arcs.org/halloween.php or call (914) 785-8283. Spooktacular tickets are $40. (Otherwise, tickets to Tom’s show are $18 – why not upgrade to a VIP ticket and enjoy a dessert buffet, wines, beer, coffee, and get free entrance to a dance party at the Out Bar later on?)*

Tom Judson has appeared onstage as a singer, musician, actor and–in earlier days–as an object of lust and adoration as “Gus Mattox”, GayVN Award-winning adult film star. He has composed music for off-Broadway (“Vampire Lesbians of Sodom”) film (Whit Stillman’s “Metropolitan”) television (“Sesame Street”) and has written songs for the likes of Ann Magnuson, Lisa Kron and others too numerous to mention and has also been accompanist and second banana to drag chanteuse Varla Jean Merman. Tom appeared in the Broadway show “Cabaret” and the “42nd Street” National Tour and many off-Broadway and regional productions. His one-man show “Canned Ham” successfully toured the country for two years. Also an author and columnist, Tom recently published “Laid Bare”, a collection of his essays and magazine columns. Available in print and as an eBook through Amazon.com.
