Empty Bowls is coming back! Join us (and hundreds of others) at Rondout Valley High School on Friday, April 11th from 5 to 7:30 pm to fight hunger in Ulster County. Donate $15 for a beautiful hand-made ceramic bowl that you get to keep. Fill it up with delicious soups made by local restaurants at the all-you-can-slurp buffet, and finish with a Stewart’s ice cream sundae! Proceeds benefit local food pantries, including HVCS. (You can also donate $5 for a paper bowl.)
New for this year, Rondout has added live music! Enjoy the sweet sounds of the Saints of Swing featuring Rene Bailey.

The tables and charts at left show HVCS’ overall financial picture for Fiscal Year November 2012 to October 2013. In the past year, Medicaid revenue jumped to record highs with the introduction of the new Health Home system. While this translates to a greatly improved financial standing for the agency, we expect that New York State will continue to make adjustments and changes to Health Homes as the system unfolds. Many of these financial gains came by performing outreach to newly-eligible potential clients, but these people may not enroll as ongoing clients (with us or with any Health Home provider). Thus, while the Statement of Activities shows higher income than expenses, it is likely that future Medicaid revenue will even out and normalize over time.
HVCS was able to withstand the Great Recession and its ensuing government budget cutbacks and a downturn in philanthropy thanks to sound fiscal management. We’re able to survive and maintain a high level of service for all our clients due to stable financial policies and rigorous, watchful oversight. We take our role as stewards of taxpayers’ dollars very seriously.

For the second year in a row, Caring for Children/The Frank and Rosemary Iovieno Foundation donated a sleigh-worth of toys, movie passes and gift cards to ensure that our clients’ children had a happy holiday. Rachel Diness, Caring for Children’s Vice President, right, met up with HVCS’ Jennifer Brathwaite, on left, to deliver 14 large bags filled with approximately 75 wrapped gifts for us to give to clients and their families with kids. The foundation is based in Massachusetts but Rachel hails from Sullivan County. This year they served 400 kids with holiday gifts, mostly with those living with HIV but some with other chronic conditions as well. We are very grateful for the support of Caring for Children and all who donated toys and gifts this past holiday season. Thank you for remembering our clients in need!
