Photos From Our High Score Hijinks Pride Kickoff

Friday, June 3rd, 2022

On Thursday, June 2, 2022, HVCS held a fundraiser and awareness-raiser for our Men’s Services Program and PrEP Program, in honor of Pride Month. Happy Valley, an arcade on Main Street in Beacon, generously donated the space, all quarters played in their classic video games, and proceeds from signature cocktails. We owe them a huge thanks! We appreciate everyone who came out to support us and to kick off the Pride season.

Fill Chill Food Drive Party Returns On Nov 16

Wednesday, November 7th, 2018

Fill Chill 2018Chill Wine Bar in Beacon is hosting once again their annual “Fill Chill” food drive and dance party, with the 2018 event slated for Friday, November 16th starting at 8:00 pm. Drop off a few cans or packages of non-perishable food to help stock HVCS’ food closets for the holidays–heck, why not bring a whole bag of food? Chill will have their selection of wines and bottled beers available, plus their bar snack menu featuring paninis and cheese platters. Chill will donate a portion of sales to HVCS so make sure to eat and drink up!

New Board Officers Elected

Thursday, October 15th, 2015

HVCS’ Board of Directors is pleased to announce a new slate of officers, including a new Board President. Andrew S. Evans, Jr. took the helm after former chair Paul Callagy decided to step down. “HVCS’ Board is in a terrific place,” Paul said during his resignation speech. “We have a new, energized membership, and it’s time for some new leadership.” Paul served on the Board for eighteen years and was President for over fifteen years.

Andrew Evans works for the Dutchess County Department of Health. He joined the Board in 2012, and he lives in Beacon. The other newly-elected officers include Vice President Michael J. Hall, a Milton resident and a professor at Dutchess Community College. Aretha Thompson was elected as Secretary; she is a manager at Citizens Bank and lives in Beacon. Another Beacon resident, Andrew Bell, was elected as Treasurer. He works as a financial consultant for Global Employment Solutions/IBM.

Congratulations to the new Board officers, and we send our sincerest appreciation and gratitude to Paul Callagy for so many years of dedicated service.

The SantaCam: Photos from “Fill Chill”

Tuesday, December 16th, 2014

On Friday, December 12, 2014 Chill Wine Bar in Beacon hosted a food, toy and fund drive to support HVCS’ new Poughkeepsie food pantry. Guests dropped off unwrapped toys and  nonperishable foods, and made cash donations. Chill donated 25% of all sales for the night to HVCS, and that will be matched by a major corporation. Santa Claus himself stopped by to say thanks to our loyal, fun-loving donors and to hand out tokens of appreciation (donated by Elizabeth Arden). All told, we raised more than $500 and collected a carload of food!

Photos from Our Cheese & Wine Tasting Party

Thursday, November 6th, 2014

HVCS held an exclusive cheese and wine tasting party at the Beacon Pantry (in Beacon, of course) on Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Owner Stacey Penlon and cheese fanatic Jen guided an intimate group of supporters through the seven styles of cheese, while local wine expert Bob Brink paired each offering with a special wine. It was a trip around the globe and through time as Stacey and Jen revealed the mysterious beginnings of cheese and the traditional methods now being revived by artisanal cheesemakers. Guests went home with some HVCS schwag, a Parmigiano Reggiano frisbee, and a huge block of knowledge about cheese!

Photos from our "Chill Out" Friendraiser

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Oh Thursday, August 19, 2010 ARCS held another installation in our series of small, casual “Friendraiser” cocktail parties at Chill Wine Bar in Beacon, NY. Over 70 guests gathered at this low-key wine and tapas spot for complimentary cheese platters and freshly-made hummus, and a wine tasting by Lauber Imports. Judith Tulloch entertained us with vocals and guitar for most of the evening, while v0lunteers sold tickets for our “chance auction” raffle. Prizes included a basket of cookies from Crumb Bakery in Beacon, massage services from Hands On Massage & Wellness, passes to Hudson Valley Renegades baseball games, a fall foliage cruise on the River Rose paddleboat, and fine wines donated by Bob Brink and Bill Cole. Mr. Cole made his donation in honor of his uncle Paul Bratton, who passed away from AIDS in 1990. We also gave away Barnes & Noble gift cards provided by Verizon and a CD of Judith Tulloch’s music. ARCS would like to thank Patrick McKenna and Jim Svetz, the owners of Chill, for hosting the event for the second year in a row; volunteers Barbara Bennet, Christopher Emerson, Trina Hiemcke, and Andi Straus; and of course all of our friends and supporters who attended.
