Governor Andrew M. Cuomo decreed that domestic travelers will no longer be required to quarantine after entering New York from another U.S. State or U.S. Territory starting April 1st. While no longer required, the NYS Department of Health still recommends quarantine after domestic travel as an added precaution. Mandatory quarantine remains in effect for international travelers. All travelers must continue to fill out the Traveler Health Form. Individuals should continue strict adherence to all safety guidelines to stop the spread – wearing masks, socially distancing and avoiding gatherings.
How much do you know about fentanyl test strips? Why, and how, should you use them? When funding allows, we provide these for free to our clients. Be smarter and safer, test first!
Our Hepatitis C (HCV) Patient Navigation program has been doing outreach at the Poughkeepsie PODS. These are former Dutchess County Jail inmate units that were converted to Temporary Housing Units during Covid-19. The HCV team provides HCV education, testing and runs a weekly table highlighting all of our HVCS programs.
MHA (Mental Health Association) and Hudson River Housing joined together to figure out how to provide services for individuals experiencing homeless in Dutchess County while adhering to social distancing guidelines. The space accommodates up to 52 males and 48 females.
We are glad to be a part of this valuable community resource!
Federally Qualified Health Centers are community-based health care providers that receive funds from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Health Center Program to provide comprehensive primary health care services in underserved areas. They must meet a stringent set of requirements, including providing care on a sliding fee scale based on ability to pay and operating under a governing board that includes patients.
A FQHC qualifies for enhanced reimbursement from HRSA beyond Medicare and Medicaid benefits. As a nonprofit and tax-exempt organization, a FQHC can receive grants from the government, the private sector, and donations in addition to Medicare and Medicaid funding. Cornerstone is one of 1,368 official FQHCs across America.
As we’ve been saying this week, HVCS is now a division of Cornerstone Family Healthcare. You may be wondering about Cornerstone’s history.
For more than 50 years Cornerstone has been responsive to meeting the needs of the communities in Orange, Sullivan, Rockland and Broome counties. They have focused on the underserved and those without access to health care. Cornerstone’s roots date back to 1967 when four AmeriCorps VISTA volunteers, led by a passionate and outspoken civil rights activist, established a small health clinic for migrant farm workers housed in the Black Dirt Region of Orange County. Like the produce migrant workers helped grow, the then Pine Island Migrant Family Health Clinic grew strong roots, and has since evolved into a mature, cutting-edge healthcare system now known as Cornerstone Family Healthcare.
